The custom of decorating the car originates from the ancient ritual of "bedding" the newly-wed couple. When procreation of marriage was the most important component of the nuptials, bridesmaids would decorate the bed with flowers and ribbons. This later transferred to decorating the car of a newlywed couple.

Colors used in the decoration have specific meanings: Red - Justice, Blue - Constancy, Green - Youth, Yellow - Joy/Honor, Straw Color - Plenty, Gold - Gaiety, Flesh Color - Lust
