Wedding Traditions

Walking is considered to be the favored means of getting to the church since there is a better chance of encountering lucky omens. Good signs include: seeing a lamb, dove, spider or rainbow; meeting a black cat, policeman, clergyman, doctor, blind man or chimney sweep; & having the sun shine upon the bride. Bad signs include: seeing a pig, hare or lizard cross the road, a funeral or passing an open grave. Passing monks & nuns foretell barreness & a life dependent upon charity. Bad weather on the way to the ceremony is an omen of an unhappy marriage, although in some cultures, rain is considered a good sign. Snow is associated with fertility & wealth.
